Process heating systems – Design
We’re always enthusiastic about the opportunity to be involved in the design phase of your industrial heating solutions. With years of hands-on experience across a wide variety of systems and industries, we’ve seen what works, what doesn’t, and where things can go wrong. This insight allows us to add real value from the very beginning of a project.
Too often, the design process happens in isolation, without involving the people who will eventually install, commission, and maintain the system. In our experience, that can lead to avoidable complications down the line. That’s why we believe it makes sense to bring those teams into the conversation early. When we’re part of the design process, we can help identify practical constraints, streamline the implementation, and avoid common issues—saving time, money, and effort throughout the project lifecycle.
Another key benefit of early involvement is our ability to help clients articulate exactly what they need. Many clients come to us with a clear understanding of what they want their system to achieve. However, converting that vision into a detailed, actionable design brief can be a complex task. That’s where our experience really helps. We ask the right questions, challenge assumptions when needed, and help guide the conversation toward clarity and precision.
By working collaboratively with you and your design team, we ensure the system requirements are not only well-defined but also realistic and technically achievable. Our goal is to create a shared understanding of what success looks like and then make that vision a reality.
This proactive, collaborative approach helps eliminate confusion and misunderstanding and reduce the risk of miscommunication between all parties. It allows the project to move forward with confidence, knowing that everyone is aligned on both the goals and the path to achieving them.
Ultimately, our involvement helps ensure your industrial heating system is delivered on time, in full, and to the high standard you expect. Whether it’s a new installation or a complex retrofit, we’re here to make the process smoother, smarter, and more efficient—right from the start.
With Fairburn Heating Solutions, the situation shown opposite will be a thing of the past!
We ensure all systems are designed in accordance with industry best practice, with specific reference to BS EN 746-2 (Industrial Thermoprocessing Equipment. Safety Requirements for Combustion and Fuel Handling Systems) & BS EN ISO 13577-2 Industrial Furnaces & associated Process Equipment – Safety.

We have adopted the Royal Academy of Engineering six principles for designing engineering systems:
- Debate, define, revise and pursue the purpose – get real clarity about what we want the process heating system to do
- Think holistic – a system is only as good as its weakest link!
- Follow a disciplined procedure – a structured approach reduces the risk of mistakes
- Be creative – see the wood before the trees
- Take account of people – most systems need people to operate them
- Manage the project and the relationships – plan, manage, report and refine
